The JSA released a wooden boxed set of reproduction tegata from the 1st to 36th Yokozuna in the 1950s, and re-released the set again in 1978. Each release was limited to 3000 units - each with a numbered sticker. The retail price in 1978 was Y175,000.
This is set number 53 from the 1978 release. It contains the 'book' of successive Yokozuna handprints - each on white paper adhered to red backing - the tegata are oversized. The book is sealed using bone pins (often broken - but in great condition in this set). The main content are 36 oversized reproductions of successive Yokozuna tegata from 1 to 36. There are also various other paper certificates, images and a wooden gunbai. Inside the wooden box is a fabric covered box set of tegata, sealed with whale bone pins, plus an authentic JSA gunbai.
Complete sets with the box intact, with gunbai are essentially impossible to find. This set appears to have been stored and never opened - the purple ropes are as new (vibrant purple despite 50 years in storage. The only condition issue is the box - which has some cracking due age - refer images (left side).
Comes with the bonus set of tegata prints from the 1970s
Nice hard to find collectors piece for serious Yokozuna tegata collectors.
