Here is a rare opportunity to own an authentic kesho mawashi.
Originally owned and used by Matsumaeyama, who has a highest rank of Maegashira 9 in the March 1965 basho. He was from the town of Matsumae in Hokkaido.
In fantastic condition for its age (ring worn in 1965) - it is 60 years old but retains great colour. No fading - vibrant purple, and the embroidery on the rear is bright and undamaged. Has been packed away out of the sun since its retirement.
The rear kanji reads: "Made by Shirokiya" (originally a textile maker, then department store who gifted kesho mawashi to rikishi)
Dimensions: 66cm wide, and the full 700cm in length!!
The kesho mawashi itself weighs 7kg.
Comes with the padded insert from ints original akeni.
The original cost to manufacture a kesho mawashi is around $1M Yen - around $6,500 USD starting price.
A wonderful piece for serious global sumo collectors.
